Immigration Exams
It is important that patients who require an immigration exam also have all their up to date medical records, with verifications of current immunizations and any chronic mental or physical health concerns. This can help our staff better assist our clients through the examination and can also allow us to recommend extended care for health and wellness.
Requirements for a US Immigration Exam
Although our clinicians can address long term health concerns based on medical histories, we will also be able to conduct the screenings that are required by the government for entry and stay in the US. Before the examination, our staff will go over the Class A and Class B pre-qualifications that patients may require. This can include:
- Possible communicable diseases that are considered a public health hazard
- Insufficient immunizations
- Mental or physical conditions that can be harmful to public health
- A history of substance abuse issues
These concerns must be addressed in advance of the exam, for USCIS determinations.
What is the process for a Medical Immigration Exam?
The immigration exam includes going over these records and performing a full physical and mental evaluation for our patients. In going over the medical histories, our staff will also be able to assess the need for further immunizations, and we may administer these at the time of the initial visit or during the follow up exam.
After the comprehensive physical, we will administer a TB test, and run a blood panel to check for communicable diseases such as TB, syphilis, and Gonorrhea. For our patients who have a positive TB test, we will also have to perform a chest X-ray in order to make a further determination for health risk and following course of action.
Once this initial exam, which can take 1 to 1 ½ hours, has been completed, we will ask patients to return to Briggs Chaney Walk-In Clinic, so that we may go over the results and any necessary recommendations. If the vaccinations are up to date and the results of the testing are negative, then we will complete all forms. Once this is done, we will also provide the necessary signatures and the sealed envelope in which all documentation may be safely put so that patients can take these to the USCIS or attending attorney.
As a designated Civil Surgeon site, our clinical staff can provide patients with consultations in the event of positive blood work, and can make recommendations on the evaluation based on the current physical examination and on the patient’s medical records. Although the USCIS will make the final decision as to a patient’s legal ability to remain in the US, our caring staff can help with many of the concerns that could be a point of contention.

We strive to put all of our visitors at ease, so that we may go over the medical records, physical examinations, and test results with thoroughness and concern, in order to present the most accurate evaluation to the USCIS and to our clients.

How to get an immigration exam

Gather your medical records, documentation of immunizations, and the appropriate I-693 form.
It’s important that you have the proper medical documentation necessary to prove your fitness to immigrate to the United States.
I-693, the Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record form, can be obtained online.
